Opening Doors: Celebrating Stories of Homelessness to Hope — November 16, 2010
I am one of the local artists who painted a door in the fall of 2010 for the Opening Doors event. The overall theme was homelessness, and my door was in the "family" category.
Opening Doors celebrated the achievements of individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Des Moines. The celebration was held on Nov. 16, and presented awards to three formerly homeless clients who have been successful in overcoming the obstacles of homelessness. The doors painted for the event are now being displayed at Polk County River Place, home to DHS, Polk County Crisis and Advocacy Services and other non-profit agencies, at 2309 Euclid Ave in Des Moines.
